Ben Chandler is a name to remember if you’re a background/environment artist. He works on many contemporary low-res adventure games, namely a lot of stuff published by Wadjet Eye Games.
He spends a lot of time meticulously studying art, his breakdown of Full Throttle backgrounds being just one example. The 2 images above are just a dip in the full PDF he made available earlier this year.
His blog is such a wonderful resource for aspiring artists, full of posts on art fundamentals, from color theory to composition, always demonstrated through examples from old adventure games. Do check it out.
